3 Tips to Get Your Feet into Shape in 2017

Generally when we think about getting into shape, our feet do not come to mind.  The condition of our feet plays a big role in our overall health.

Here are 3 things you can do to get your feet into shape this year:stretching

  1. Walk. “Each step puts your foot through its full range of motion, from the time your heel hits the ground until you push off with your toes.[i]”  Walking is also good for your entire body, even 5-10 minutes of active walking a day.
  1. Stretch. Stretching allows for flexibility in your foot muscles, which can help keep them limber.  You can do toe curls, toe extensions and heel stretches to name a few.
  1. Resistant Exercises. These types of exercises “strengthen muscle, which, in turn, provide better support and protection for the foot as a whole.”  Good resistant exercises include: squats, leg lifts and hip abductions.

 

When you are ready to get into shape this year, don’t forget to include these 3 steps into your routine.   Your feet and your body will thank you for it.
